You could say that. It's an evolution of 3.5 where they were suppose to iron out some bugs in the game mechanics, you need less books to play effectively and is totally compatible.

it looks like a wonderful game we have the core rule book and the advanced players guide and some of the new classes are quite interesting. like the alchemist.

I imagined him in Red, however this was a character I designed to play myself in a different game that had different gods so it was accepted.
